Basu Thakur publishes book chapter about love and death

Professor Gautam Basu Thakur, chair of the Department of Humanities & Cultural Studies, published a book chapter in the Julie Reshe and Todd McGowan edited book “Death and Love: Psychoanalytic and Philosophical Perspectives,” Routledge, London, 2025.

Basu Thakur’s chapter, “Between Nowhere and Goodbye: Love Cliches (and beyond) in Literature and Film,” examines Sigmund Freud’s and Jacques Lacan’s theories about the interwoven character of love and death(-drive) through literary and filmic texts such as O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi,” Pablo Neruda’s poetry and Clint Eastwood’s film “Million Dollar Baby.”
