The Graduate College hosted its annual Awards Ceremony on April 24, 2025, celebrating the achievements of graduate students and faculty across disciplines. The ceremony recognized the winners of Boise State’s Three Minute Thesis Competition, along with recipients of the Graduate Student Showcase Awards, the Dean’s Awards, the Presidential Scholars Awards, and the Excellence in Mentoring Awards.
In his opening remarks, Dean Scott Lowe emphasized the critical importance of graduate-level scholarship and mentoring in fostering innovation and student success.
“It is our responsibility to make abundantly clear the value that our science, art, and all of the scholarship that our faculty and students conduct offer to the world. This scholarship, as Dr. Tromp always notes, changes lives for the better, and tonight we recognize this scholarship, as well as our students who have magnificently conveyed its importance outside of the lab, classroom, and studio,” he said.
Ellen Schafer, an associate professor in the School of Public and Population Health, and Martin Corless-Smith, a professor in the Department of Theatre, Film, and Creative Writing, were presented with the Excellence in Graduate Faculty Mentoring Award. This recognition highlights the vital role faculty mentorship plays in shaping successful academic careers and the importance of strong, supportive relationships in higher education.
A total of 57 awards were presented to students and faculty from across the academic colleges, with recipients receiving a combined total of $15,800 in award money for their exceptional research and accomplishments.
